I have had great luck for 3 years with Gralise 600mg 2 times a day and Oxcarbazepine 600mg times a day with some pain time but starting Friday I got slammed.
After a dinner Friday night I all of a sudden stated having some tingles. It slammed me til Sunday morning with one small break in pain Saturday.
Sunday morning in the shower it all of a sudden went away and that lasted most of the day. Then came back all of a sudden again and will only go away with me taking an extra dose of the meds or one of the pain meds prescribes which I don't like to do.
Has anyone had this that meds all of a sudden do not work?
I have a neuro apt tomorrow but he is usually NO help.
I take Gabapentin, it has a working life of about two years for me personally. Many have no problem at all. It take a break, use an alternative, then about a year later I return, with success, to the Gabapentin and I am good for another couple of years. This may be what is happening to you. If your neuro is no help, change. When we have faith and trust in our medical caregivers, we generally have better outcomes.
I used to get the strikes right next to my nose. I have not had that is years thank fully. Mostly in lower and upper jaw, the burning pain is what I have. Never tried the lidocane patch, I will ask for it. The neuro I have is on the list on this site as one of the good ones, he is just indifferent I guess. The first time I went to him he told me I could not have TN because I could touch my face and he sent me to an ENT, who sent me to another, then another neuro who read my CT scan and saw nothing, so I went to another who said he saw a nerve and vessel intertwining and said it was on the correct side to cause me the pain and sent me back to the first guy I saw. So now he believes me. Yes I would like to find another neuro that is more engaged. I guess not having pain and the meds working for such a stretch I just put up with him.
