Anyone have NEW information about the DREZ procedure? Duke Hospital, Dr. Lad, highly recommends this procedure for my atypical trigeminal neuralgia. Everything I find online isn't updated or different than how he described it.
Thanks to everyone!
Prudence
Hi there. Drez was mentioned to me as well. I live in Kentucky. The Dr. mentioned to me was about an hour away. He is from Egypt. I think the procedure is too dangerous. One wrong move and you can be in a wheelchair. So I won't even consider it. With my luck, it would happen.
Have you read up on Drez? I have a severly damaged nerve after gamma knife then MVD. Suffer from Anesthesia Dolorosa. Suffer everyday. I hate this. No one understands this type of pain. Good luck.
The few years I have been on here I have never heard of this. But out of curiousity I looked it up. Sounds scary and experimental.
Thank you santafered, i was thinking the same but dr at Duke in NC seem very confident that it was very safe. Not sure how operating between brainstem and spinalcord is 'safe'. but then again he performed just 12 of the procedures.

Yes i understand, i'm not having any successful procedures or those recommended indicate complications that you experienced and now trying to deal with. and as you say "with my luck it would happen" is the exactly the same with me, unfortunately. I can't take meds since i have high sensitivity to everything! stuck...i have a crainiotomy to remove a tumor pressing on the trigeminal nerve and everyone complete confidence that this was the absolute cause...SURPRISE to them (and me...PAIN).

i agree, sounds scary especially after conversing with docs nurse who gave me all possible complications...oddly the doc didn't mention all of them...just the minor ones which were of no concern to me...all acceptable to relieve the pain. take care jstagrl29
