Theres a dr. ducic who operates on occipital neurolgia at georgetown for those interested.
Where is that? I am near chicago and my doctors might as well be mcdonalds cashiers. They do not seem to have the slightest clue on this issue. Mine keeps trying everything else but tn medicine. The only reason in even getting tegritol which by the way is not working is from my nuerologist who also does not seem to know much either. Although both are really quik about surgery talk. This is very frustrating I thought most docs would want to try all other options before even considering risking potentially more issues from surgery complications. The emergency rooms aren’t much help either. I don’t even bother with that anymore.
The closest practitioners I personally know of relative to Chicago, who are intimately familiar with TN medication would be at the Mayfield Clinic in Cincinnati. However, the TN Association maintains a knowledge base of physicians. Almost all of the following are neurosurgeons. But you should be able to call their offices and ask for a recommendation on neurologists who understand TN.

There are also three support group contacts listed in Chicago, and this is also a place to start. Call or email them and ask if any of their members have had a successful relationship with a Chicago area neurologist.

From the above list I interviewed three (3), Rosenow,Rosseau and Bovis. I selected Bovis and he operated on me May 17th,2011. I had an eperdemoid tumor pressing on the Trigeminal and he successfully eliminated the pain and removed a large portion of the tumor. He is IMO conservative, he does not take chances with other peoples lives. He left some in there but Im fine with it if I never get pain again. Did not need him to risk my hearing and paralysis on a "hunch".
Rosseau? provided the wrong advice. With tumors the approach based on the Mayo Clinic studies is operation not radiation. If I needed radiation I would select Gamma over Cyber. IMO she was wrong on both accounts.
Rosenow? Talented. Super Smart. Cocky. That is the reason I went with Dr. Bovis. Rosenow's attitude was a little too cavalier for me regarding brain surgery. His quote when question if the TN returned, " Oh...we'll just operate and take it out"....He was 100% right, but the vibe did not sit well with me. He is at NW Memorial a FANTASTIC facility. I would definitely consider him and they have another on staff that specilizes in TN. I would definitely interview someone at NW Memorial.
Bovis? I picked him and things have worked out beatifully. Enough said.
Good luck and GOD bless, Jerry Parker
Thanks for the info red. I am starting my new jouney as of Monday. I have to get rid of these doctors before they make this any worse for me. When you are not getting any better and a doc says he is not willing to do anything else about it it is time to let him go. I am just going to have to deal with this on my own till then. Its very scary but I do not trust what they are doing to me and the way I am being treated like a drug addict. He is acting like these meds should have worked and since they have not I must be lying to him. I am not happy about taking any meds at all but I would rather search for different med combos before cosidering surgery
After having a brain emg and neck with not much showing, assuming I understand it. Another 3 days in bed, but a lot cramping and cervical spine pain. Im a nerve root map and it appears I am still short of tissue, Im filled with fluid and just about every area hurts. The cramping is waking me at night and every place that has scar tissue hurts. Miam suggested psychiatry. but nothing for pain. how many of us are bed ridden and in such chronic pain. other than reds suggestions are all i have. its hard to keep going. where would you get the best advice. you cant write or see everyone.
for chronic inflamation has anyone used cortisone.
duvic is in washington…

Red..... Bruce Pollock is a top researcher as well. It was his study from Mayo that convinced me to precede with with surgery. If I recall correctly, you can call Mayo, explain your situation and overnite your MRI's. They will review them and discuss whether they can help you or not. Now I had a tumor causing the TN so my situation is different than most TN patients.
Red, Thanks for all your support to this community. To be able to assist people in great hardship who are suffering the most unbearable of pains is a great gift. Thanks.
