Depression and ATN

how do you cope with it ??
i don’t take drugs now…

Depression is very, very hard. It’s probably more painful than ATN even. I’m sorry you’re depressed. I’ve been struggling with depression also. I don’t know if it takes a long time for the meds to get out of our system or if it’s just living with pain and discomfort and the fear of not knowing if you can live a normal life. I know I get tired so easily and that brings on the pain and then the depression follows. It sucks. Just don’t give up. If you don’t, I won’t

Basic psychology tells us that helplessness brings on depression. Animal experiments back this up. Chronic pain can cause us to feel helpless and hopeless. We are at great risk for both depression and anxiety.

It is important for us to discuss this with our doctors. Some of the drugs used to control TN are also very effective at controlling depression, like Lamictal and Cymbalta. Cymbalta even controls anxiety.

Keep talking to us. Talk to your doctor. I hope your mood improves soon.

Tomey,

I suppose my answer is that . . . .I can't. Evenutally, after fighting it since 2003, I just had to have something to kill the pain. Thus, I began my Opiate Therapy group. It is the only true relief I have ever found from ATN.

I don't want to be on them. But, I was on the brink when I found them.

Drugs are not good for your system, but neither is depression. It is a killer too.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Maybe you are stronger than I.

I hope . . . . .good luck . . . .big hugs!!!!

Stef
