Cranial stimulation

I was contacted by the Boston Foundation for Sight regarding a cranial stimulator treatment they have. I know they tried 'the Scrambler' before with varied success but I would have had to stop taking the Gabapentin in order to try it (too scary for me).

I have no information regarding this treatment for atypical neuralgia. Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

This has the general sound of "Motor Cortex Stimulation", an experimental technique which attempts to block pain by applying impulses to the outer white matter layer which surrounds the brain. You can run a search of the site in our search window top right above, or on the internet generally at one of the search engines. I'll take a look at Pub Med over the weekend and see if there's anything new there.

buntbean, This non-invasivetreatment was all over the internet a few years ago and the National Insitutes of Health began clinical trials which were scheduled to complete in December 2010. Many of us are waiting for the results at:

The point of contact for this trial is listed with the study document as below. I hesitate to suggest that we make a blinking nuisance of ourselves, but if the trial is complete it seems to me quite reasonable that several of us make known our displeasure at not seeing published results. Feel free to attempt the project and let us know what you learn.

Thanks for looking into this, Bunt. I think I've seen some similar outcomes in small-sample series case reports, so I'm afraid I can't say I'm surprised. There are other more optimistic reports, as Ronald has listed elsewhere. But I'm not seeing any consistency yet.

Regards and best,

buntbean, Add my thanks too for your work on checking on rTMS. Your effort saves the rest of us a lot of time checking for the report and leaves time to check on other treatments. Sharing info works. RonaldS
