Hi all
I am scheduled for MVD on January, and am slowly reducing my Gabapentin, as directed by my surgeon. I take 600, 4x a day. I reduced my nighttime dose to 300mg about a 10 days ago, and the late afternoon dose to 300mg this past Sunday. I am starting to get quite a bit of breakthrough flashes ( I never had relief from the constant burning TN2 ), and am wondering if any of you remained on meds right up until surgery. My NS said I can readjust the dose back up if pain is intolerable, but I would love feedback from any of you that have gone through this.
Thank you and good luck to you too Christine. The surgery cannot come soon enough. As of yesterday, I cannot even let cool water hit my teeth. I am hoping to get a few more pain free days so I can finish my internet Christmas shopping.
Prior to my MVD, I was on 1600mgs of Tegretol, 1600mgs Gabapentin, Baclofen, can't remember the dose, and 50 mgs of Amitryptiline. I remained on these doses until after my MVD. I took around four months after the operation to reduce my medication to zero. The Amitryptiline was the most difficult to deal with. Successful MVD, to date, med free and I have my life back. Best of luck with your op.
Hi
I stayed on the meds until after surgery. I realized I was pain free right after surgery even though I took them that morning. Stopped trileptal cold turkey as advised but weaned off Baclofen as my NS directed. So far so good 24 days later. I was told some NS have different opinions on protocol but I trust mine & did what he prescribed. Good luck!!
Hi Christine, I had my MVD on 31st Oct and stayed on my meds right up until my op. I have bialateral TN so this is probably the reason behind this. The NS did say that I may be able to reduce my meds following the MVD but haven't been able to as yet. Good luck for your MVD in Jan and also to MiniK for the 21st of this month.
Also, really good to hear about the positive outcomes of the MVD's from Jim and Linda, long may you be pain free, I am so looking forward to that day.
