Clueless. New at this

The neuron put me on 200mg of tegretol 3times per day. I’m little, 105 lbs and 5’3" and my house was spinning like crazy. But no pain. So after a couple days I went to 100mg twice a day starting yesterday. I woke up with a dull throbbing ache, but still only took a half dose and started weaning myself off prednisone. Am I playing with fire here? At the moment I am feeling ok.

Sorry if I’m posting all over the place, trying to find my way around in a hurry through a foggy drugged brain. :frowning:

My doc started me on 200 mg twice a day and it didn't give me too much trouble-- but I am six feet 165!! It worked! Now five months later i am weaning off! I wouldn't cut back too much until all the pain is gone for awhile... the side effects do lessen after a few days to a week! Dropping from 600 mg to 200 might be a prob-- maybe see if 400 gives you as much trouble! I think it is ok to take things into your own hands-- juist listen to your body! ;-) cindy

Is that what dose they started you on? Wow, I thought you were to start SLOW. I started at 100mg twice a day, then worked up to 200mg twice a day, THEN 3 times a day. I am now up to 1600mgs a day. But when I have to increase, it is only by 200mg at a time. And you do each new dose for a week or two before you increase more.

Yes taco! My neuro understands that sometimes we have to play with our meds sometimes.

I agree you will know best.Take the least amount possible, you will or may need to increase it later. It is rough medicine on the body. You do get somewhat accustomed to it as far as the dizziness. You might forget what a doorbell is called..Haha..But that is kinda normal.Good luck.

Thanks, Cindy,
I took 100 mg this morning, skipped my evening dose and I will take 100 mg before bed. I felt good today but I am also taking prednisone, 60mg for 5 days. I weaned down to 40 today, day 3 and plan to wean down to 10 mg before going off. Could this be helping my TN and might I have an attack when I am done with this? I was too out of it when I saw the drs to ask many questions, I just wanted relief.

Taco, I have only been on the tregretol since Monday. So for that day I took 200 plus 200, a face patch, hydrocodon pills and the next morning, hydro codon with 200 mg of tregretol times three, totally out of it. Yesterday I took 200 in the morning and 100 before bed. Today 100 in the am and I’m thinking another 100 before bed. I don’t want to be on any of these meds at all. I mean, none of us do. So how do we know if we need them? If I feel an attack coming on, can’t I just take a large dose? I know, I need to ask my dr all these things. My appt isn’t until the 26th. Just wondering what others are doing…

Always go to your pharmacist - not dumb doctors - if you want to go up or down on your meds LOL -- they are trained in the highest regards of side effects from hell!
