Can this just go away?

I was diagnosed a month ago with trigeminal neuralgia, it was a bad time leading up to the diagnosis and for a couple of weeks afterward. I decided I would try chiropractic with a well respected and highly recommended chiropractor, and also a highly recommended acupuncturist. Seriously only a week into these sessions and it began to calm down, now, two weeks later I have no pain. What’s going on? Is it just going away on its own or is it the result of chiropractic and acupuncture treatments? Do I really have TN? I’m not complaining believe me, I’m feeling so good right now I wish I could pass it on to all who suffer with this terrible disorder. My MRI isn’t scheduled until July. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Sure it can just go away, the body is a great healer given the tools.

Do/ did you have TN, you had facial pain/ shocks, TN is a description of symptoms, not a diagnosis, on that basis, you had TN. Picking up a phone and placing it to your ear is a bio-mechanical action and as such did chiro/ acupuncture help, quite possible, as the neck can cause facial pain. Your upcoming scan I would be wary about, anyone telling you, you have vascular compression- we have the solution. Use it to rule out serious pathology- unlikely as your symptoms have subsided.

Either way great news, and I would suggest you revisit chiro/ acupunture if your symptoms return as a first port of call.

Thank you amicusamoth for your input. I’m so new to this and so confused, I’m trying to understand. My Doc doesn’t seem to know much about it and can’t seem to offer much help other than medication. My chiropractor though said he has and is treating others with the same condition and is having success relieving their pain. He has told me that it’s important to keep emotions from getting out of hand. I don’t intend to stop chiropractor treatments as long as I’m getting relief.

Hi Bella,

It certainly can go away. Remissions are very common with TN. My longest was seven years. I have had for the past three but even still it comes and goes and I have pain free days, weeks and months.

My mom also has TN and she has been in remission for five years.

Also there are lots of sufferers that get relief from Chiro and acupuncture so maybe the treatment is helping you. I have been helped by physio and acupuncture but it keeps coming back and those therapies don't always help.

Enjoy every pain free moment and hope that it never comes back.

Thank you justjane, I’m so grateful I’m having a break from the pain. My mother had MS and I wondered if there was a connection there, I asked my Doc but he says there isn’t any connection but I find it hard to believe. In the meantime I’m thanking my lucky stars for every pain free day and I pray for the relief for everyone suffering with this very painful disorder.

TN is a rare symptom of MS. Mine was gone for a couple of months but has come back 3 weeks ago. Tried chiropractic, gave relief for a couple of days but came back a bit worse. Still trying new things! Glad you are pain free now! Enjoy! Prayers!

Thank you Sue, I'm only new to this disorder, it only started November 2015 with attacks happening on and off not really demanding my full attention until a few months later when it began to progress causing me to stop everything and find out what the heck is going on. I feel somewhat bad that I got relief so quickly while so many out there aren't so fortunate and have to suffer so long. I will say though, I feel an excellent chiropractor who does upper cervical care makes a world of difference, at least for me I believe it's crucial, I don't believe all chiropractors are created equal. As I said I feel very fortunate to gain relief so early into this disorder and I wish the same to you Sue and to all who suffer.
