Can anyone tell me if over time Tegretol will stop working?

Hi everyone; I have been on Tegretol now for Four years. I have been lucky enough , I had to

laugh at myself when I said the word" lucky'. And it wasn't a good laugh. I have been on low

doses of Tegretol for four years. And now I find myself at 500mg and 600mg's. And I am having

trouble with my walking , fatigue and icky sickly feelings. And it is really hard to go to work

without being miserable. So I am having anxiey over it all. So can anybody tell me if this will

pass when I get use to the higher doses or if there is other medication that I will be able to take

that doesn't have so much side effects that wiil interfer with my working.? Thank you Jess.

Hi Jess,

I wish I knew more about the medications and how to answer your question. I just wanted to say "hi" and let you know that you're not alone in your concerns or in your feelings of fatigue, anxiety, or even the "icky sickly" feelings. I have MS and TN, too.

I'm on Neurontin for my pain and it hasn't given me too much trouble other than a little weight gain. There are times I have breakthrough pain, though, and my neuro. puts me on an IV of Solumedrol. That usually wipes the pain out fairly quickly.

Hope you find answers to your question. Feel free to write to me any time!

Hi Jess, I was like you unable to tolerate higher levels. I did try to stick with it, and actually tried it a couple of times (different years) thinking I might do better. Same thing each time. I felt like I was drunk or something. I stayed with it for over a week, the doctor said at point it was not going to change. Higher dose was only going to make it worse. I stopped and went to Gabapentin at 3600mg a day. They say not everyone gets results over 1800mg a day, I guess I was fortunate to be one of those that fell in the group. I started seeing great results at 2400mg a day.
