Anesthesia dolorosa --> post MVD burning in numb areas (chin, teeth, tongue, gums)

Anyone know anything about Anesthesia Dolorosa or how to treat it?

I had MVD 6 months ago and daily I have pressure and burning in the numb areas on that side. Note the horrible TN episodes are remission (yeah!), but this burning is wearing on me. If I touch the areas (chin, cheek, teeth, gums, lips and tongue) there is no sensation b/c they are numb, but they sting and burn.

I thought it was Burning Mouth Syndrome, but this Anesthesia Dolorosa popped up on the TN facebook page and damn if it is not very close to what I have been struggling with...

I also have tightness, heaviness. Often it feels like someone is pulling on my teeth

Any comments/support/insight is appreciated

Have you put this in the search box?

Albee, I’m sorry to read this could be a possibility …have you spoken to your doctor yet about it? Google and read all you can ( there’s lots of info online) my only understanding of it is from reading others experiences and it usually includes numbness with a burning sensation.

I did read once of a couple who tried mirror therapy to heal his AD, it involved setting up mirrors, the wife would massage the good side of his face, so that the brain thinks its the bad side due to the reflection in the mirror and somehow this diminished the pain from AD.

I’m sure if you google it, you’ll find it.

I would highly encourage you to seek guidance from your doctor, perhaps it’s something else all together.

Positive thoughts, Mimi

I hope you get the help that you need…you have been thru a lot mentally and physically!

thank you all! unfortunately I am too big a wuss to do any more research right now. The entire thing freaks me out completely and then if med up (lexapro) I am just mentally numb

I have my 6 month follow up with Hopkins (had MRI done on Thurs) this week and also visit my Neurologist as well this week.

TBH Im just scared

Albee, I’m glad you’re seeing both your neuro and NS at Hopkins this week.
Sending you ((( hugs ))) for the fear, positive thoughts too, one day at a time…
