Amount of tegretol

hey everyone
I’am curious as a first timer on this site as to what amounts of tegretol people are taking. I’am up to 4 or 5 a day at 200mg each . In Canada that seems to be a fair amount. I know TN has been hard on my family.

Hi Rob,
I’m currently taking 1300mg a day. My GP wants me to keep increasing it until I am pain free. I have been told I can go up to 2000mg. I find I get very tired and light headed on this current dose so I’m quite reluctant to go any higher at the moment, though if the pain increases I will have no other option.

Kind regards,

Jo X x

I am currently taking 1200 mg per day and have the option of increasing. I take a fair amount of Lamictal and have added a third med, too.

Wow! I hesitate to say much because I am still kind of in the woods sorting things out. I have about five diagnoses including TN and I ended up taking 13 different prescriptions. One of them being Tegretol. I got to the point I couldn’t tolerate any of it and between doctor error, pharmacy error and losing my prescription insurance all in one week I went off of it, along with 12 other prescriptions. NEVER DO THAT! I had no choice. Withdrawals are really bad. I feel much better, and am on only three prescriptions now. One of them is a pain killer. Tegretol helps if you can handle the side effects. I probably could have without all the other meds. My only caution is to take only what you absolutely HAVE to take. Medication is a helpful thing but it can be overdone so quickly and easily that you don’t even see it coming. Ask questions, read, know whats going on and ask a friend or a family member to keep track of side effects with you. Two heads are better than one. I say this because I had a problem with a medication once and no one knew there was a problem til’ I got off of it. Then “I” figured it out. Don’t worry it wasn’t tegretol it was for Bipolar. Doctors went to school for a long time for a reason. I think for the most part they are good people who have your best interest in mind. But, they are not with you every day. A buddy can be. Good luck and God Bless. Danni

PS I am on the pain killer because while I was on all these meds I fell off the last two stairs at my apartment and tore up my hip. I knew it was hurt but didn’t know how bad until I got off the meds. Umm its tore up pretty bad and I have been walking around on it for seven months, not knowing how bad it was because it hurt but not that bad. I am now in therapy for the hip. BTW I have had face pain once since I went off of most of the meds. And that was after cleaning house all day. Hmm stress!!??
