After mvd, plate is concaved?

It wasn't at first, I'm not sure if it's from sleeping on it or what but it's definitely a canyon compared to the other side and I just noticed it yesterday, never noticed it before when washing my hair or anything, but it was definitely noticeable by touch, like a big pothole. Of all things... lol Anything to be concerned about?

Hi Shindig,
If it were me I’d call NS to ask…doesn’t sound right, BUT that being said I’ve read of others that have this. Did you have a metal plate? I had a piece of acrylic to replace the skull piece removed…
How are you otherwise?
Mimi : )

I'm not sure if it is your plate "since probably titanium" that is mis-shapen - but maybe the way he skull bone was put back - possible this way on purpose -- but I would be making a phone call!!!

I am clueless but put me in the “make a call camp”.
You don’t want to spend time worrying needlessly, better to get it resolved.

Hope you are feeling better.
Hugs
Trish

I would call for sure, just to make sure everything is ok. Glad you seem to still be doing pretty well. :-)

Ohhhhh Cymbalta coming off regular dosing schedule is supposed to be hell ---

I would immediately ask pharmacist what happens for cold turkey --

I mean really - I've heard bad stories of bad side effects coming off!

First of all, great you went on your fishing trip!

I have a very close friend who had brain tumour surgery 30 years ago and she has a pothole and it doesn’t bother her in any way…but then she wears her hair longer than you do-

I had to come off cymbalta when I had serotonin toxicity. Not very nice, very shaken for quite awhile. And it’s not recommended at all unless its an emergency. In fact i think its downright dangerous. I’d get the emergency supply. You don’t want to upset your recovery at this point.

Hi Shindig,
I went to see my surgeon 2 weeks ago as I was a little concerned about the ‘divot’ under the MVD incision site. He told me that in some people, the muscles retract and cause a sunken area but in my case, he said the muscle atrophied and that is why I have what seems like a hole. He said it happens sometimes and is not cause for concern. You may want to check with your surgeon though as you will probably feel better if he sees it. I am 5 1/2 months post surgery and and happy to report no pain.

It’s hard to stop and then restart, better to get an emergency supply from your usual pharmacy if it doesn’t show up right away.

I've had two MVDs and yes there is a slight denting on that side!

That happened to me after both of my MVD's. It's like there is a crater in my skull....and after this last time, there is a little piece that wiggles. I don't know what causes it...perhaps the material they use to repair the skull defect shrinks after time. I always warn the shampoo girl now when I get my hair done, because one time I didn't say anything and the poor girl freaked out when she touched the area....lol

Hey Shindig

Saw your post and thought I’d share a story…..I have a friend who has fibromyalgia and got relief from Cymbalta, but like you she wasn’t able to get a long term supply because of the whole insurance game (lovely country we live in when people can’t get the meds we need). Shre ran out and had the bad withdrawal effects, so her doctor percribed Effexor because there is a generic available Effexor is basically the precursor of Cymbalta (sort of like Neurontin is to Lyrica) and it actually helped her.

Might be something to consider asking your doctor if you continue having problems getting the Cymbalta… Hope you get this worked out though.

I would love to pay $40/month for a prescription. Just ONE of my meds is $75/month (of course it is my TN med) and I am on Medicare with a supplemental plan! Being old and also having things like high BP, hypothroid, etc. ...I take 4 other prescriptions too. Yikes! Save your money NOW kids.....you will need it when you get old and there is no more medicare...lol

Yes, I had this happen to me. I had MVD, then it was reopened 2 weeks later for CSF leak where plate was removed to repair the CSF leak then placed back on. I did not notice the "canyon" for a couple of months. I call it the "divot". But "canyon" is the feeling I had. Maybe "cave-in". It is concave on the left side where the scar is and bone and muscle were removed. Then it is convex on the right side where the bone and muscle are normal. I went to the surgeon for something unrelated and he said it was "normal" for what I went through. The MRI/CT was ok. Nothing to be concerned about. I asked him if I was in danger of the titanium plate breaking or getting loose. Nope. It is very noticeable by touch. It feels different lying on a pillow.

hey i just got the dent today i guess, was not there last night when i showered, and today it was, sort of freaked me out when i touched it ;-], so 7/30 to 11/4 for me

Hey Mace, it freaked me out as well when I first felt it with my fingers. Mine's still a big crater but nothing problematic heh.

I've had my "dent" since early 2007....about 5-6 months after my second MVD. No problems other than the weird way it feels to the touch....lol

Lol wierd but harmless

I would definately call to ask but I have had that same dent where my surgery was performed for 30 years. Back in those days I think they just pieced the skull back together like a puzzle dont know if they put any kind of plate in there. Its my constant reminder of what I went through and how lucky I am.

They still put the bone back in some people. If they re-use the bone they cut out it's called a "craniotomy" if they don't replace it and put a mesh in it's a "craniectomy". lol only know cause it said craniectomy on my surgery papers and looked up the difference.
