Wish me luck with Gamma Knife

Well, it’s complicated. Gamma Knife can take a long time to set in. My next follow up is in June, 6 months after surgery. And they don’t actually declare it a failure until 1 year from surgery. I’ve talked to several people online who got relief from it at 4, 7, and 9 months after surgery medical studies suggest for MOST people it takes effect between 3 months and 6 months out. I am only 2 months out. The radiation is potentially still doing its work on my nerves. So I actually have no way of knowing if it has helped or failed.

In the meantime, since I have to wait 10 more months to see if it did actually work or fail, I am going to talk to my Neruo about trying to change meds because my pain is currently not controlled.

I don’t plan to do any more procedures until my “waiting year” is up. The procedure I would like to do next is an implanted neruo stimulator. I have had some success with TENZ units on the surface, but it is not feasible to try and keep the pads on for long periods of time. I actually did Gamma knife to “check off” the last “normal” treatment thing my doctors recommend. If it does fail I will have leverage with the insurance company, I can prove I did all the recommended treatments, and maybe I can force them to help pay for some more expirimenal ones.

I am really running out of options after 6+ years. But that is kinda the story of ATN from trauma. They don’t really know what to do with it.

I really hope it works-but if it does not you have the next thing in line.I think a wave machine in my braIin would help. But in Canada they don’t seem to do things unless you get lucky.Figers crossed for you

Just wondering how it is going now?Have not been on the site for a while as I have trouble with the new forat and any extra stress is not worth it.Hope things are getting better

We are in the middle of a move, which is keeping me busy. We sign closing papers in a week and a half, then we will be living with my parents while we look for our next home. Pain has remained high, but with stress I am not surprised. We also plan to change my meds once we are done with the move. See if I can get more.pain control.

I do hope things work out for you.
Hope the move in with the parents goes well and you are a good girl.
All the best
Elaine

How are you doing now?I haven’t been on here in a long time.I do hope it worked!

Unfortunately it was deemed a failure in December 2021.

But since then I moved to a climate that is dry and doesn’t have many of the things I am allergic too. Which has reduced my sinus issues and I found out that was a huge trigger. So my pain is significantly lower since we moved several months ago.

I have been able to go back to work in a full time job in my career feild, and I am loving it, even though I am really tired and still hurting everyday. It feels really good to be doing work I enjoy.

Because I was able to go back to work my husband is able to work full time on the fixer upper house we bought. And so life is pretty good for the moment.

I would still love to have no pain, but for now I will take the reduction. Hope you are doing alright.

I am sorry it did not work but I am happy that you are happyish-or even happy.Glad that you are working and enjoying it and your hubby is working on your home. Thanks for letting me know. You are soooo young(or you were when this hell started)

Thanks, I’m coming up on 32. And I don’t seem to feel as young as other 32 year olds. But I still like to think of myself as young.

This beast took most of my 20’s away from me to some level. Hoping I can be a little more functional though my 30’s. But I take it day by day.
