What is the Craziest thing ever said to you by a medical professional about TN?

i was told i was grinding my teeth by a maxifacial specialist because he saw it in my mri like huh??? yeah thats why i'm sitting in your office cause i'm grinding my teeth i have stabbing pain in my right eye i dream about ripping my own tooth out and have a headache that i can't get rid of with anything because i'm grinding my teeth. I've also been told i have migranes ofcoarse and the sad thing is i already knew i had tn/facial pain and knew the doctor wasn't going to give me the right diagnoses I walked out of there so disappointed in the medical feild. don't wana forget the idiot dentist that kept pulling teeth because i was in pain I mean come on Im showing up to your office 2 times a week for 2 months and the last time i went his words were "im confused" thats not really something you wana hear when your in excruiating pain

I have to start on my homework, but I just have to share first. It was about five or six months in was TN. My GP sent me to an ear nose and throat doctor. He spent not even 10 minutes with me and had horrible bed side manor. At the end of this horrible appointment this jack rabbit of a doctor told me it was most likely TN and to go google it. What a awful thing to say to a patient. I got back to work, and even though I already knew that I most likely had tn already, I googled tn at work. I had not done this yet. I was so scare and upset after googling I just broke down and cried at my desk while at work. What kind of jerk of a doctor would ever tell a patient to just google an illness to learn more about it. Really!?!

Kari, didn't give you a prescription even? Honestly, if doctors are so spiteful and burned out as that, they need to lose their license until they can treat people with humanity again.

Nope, basically he told I’m not in his area of medicine and go back to my GP. Plus the whole thing of go google tn. What a butt hat of a doctor! Really I want to go back in time and tell him off sometimes, and question why he is even in the medical profession at all. But those are wishful negative thoughts that do no good.

Kari, you can report such neglect to his superiors. Oregon.gov/OMB. Oregon Medical Board. Maybe if they get enough complaints, he will be investigated. Really, if the Dr. hates people that much he needs to get a different career. Also, if you go to www.ratemds.com you can find his name and leave comments about him, and see what comments other people left about him and about any Dr. in N. America. If there is not an account for that Dr. yet, you can start one anonymously and the comments are anonymous too. In the past 10 years it seems all that I have seen are burned out doctors who are angry and stuck between what the insurance companies say they can do, and what the patient wants/needs. Now they have to worry about their income on top of it all cuz of Obamacare lowering their pay. The day after the election, the news told of dozens of doctors who closed their practice, anticipating Obamacare. I guess that shows us which ones are doctors just for the prestige, and which are there because they really care about people. Yeah isn't it awful how we always think of the perfect thing to say AFTER the event? We are in too much shock at the moment. lol. I guess it has a good side, it makes us appreciate a good Dr. when we find one. So is your GP giving you anything for your TN? Oh never mind, I just read your profile and I see you have been trying a lot of different combinations. You might also want to check out this page that tons of people added little things they do to help at home. Maybe 2 or 3 of them will make the pain more bearable for you. I am still having amazing good pain control eating hot peppers! I wrote a discussion about that too. Here's the discussion about helps others have used.

Thanks for the info:) I told my GP about that horrible doctor and he felt awful. On top of this he was tuck off because he was trying not to get me to go use google to find out more info as he knew that would have upset me and made me terrified; which it did. My prescribing doctor has changed this last summer from my GP (whom I love) to my PM doc (which is a doctor I’m beginning to really like). I’m closer to a cocktail that keeps the pain levels down and still working at but it’s far better than it was.

I’ve actually have more awful stories about doctors and will have to tell those stories later. I’m now behind on my homework and need to get my butt in gear to finish it. Thank you for the info again.

You should not be hurting this bad!! ........... That was a very upsetting thing to hear.

Oh Connie I got that often, SHOULD means nothing. So I guess they thought we were faking, as if we want to suffer and have no life? It was their easy way out so they didn't have to treat me. As if when they say that, all the pain has disappeared or something.

I went to the ER with a bad bout of breakthrough pain. It was 10/10 even with the tegretol. At take in, i mentioned (well, wrote) several times that i had TN. Later the ER Doc is talking to me and all the while lightly touching my face here and there. Of course, im cringing and flinching away from him, etc.

He then tells me.....i have TN, and need a prescription for tegretol. I showed him the bottle i already had (as i couldn't talk), and he says "Oh, then why are you here?"

I've never really wanted to kill anyone in my whole life...except that man.

An ENT asked me why I was there, he had real patients to look at....NICE!!!!

The monthly questioning by the nurse ....... "Are you having feelings of depression? ".

“Are you looking for attention? Maybe you need to see a psychiatrist.” “You’re ruining your husband’s life.” That last one really hurt.

ihold, I got told too that i was pushing my husband to a nervous breakdown. I was the one having surgeries and suffering, what about ME having a nervous breakdown? I had so many abusive doctors, but in the last 4 years I have avoided them except for my pain mgmt Dr.Tired of the disappointment and lack of their knowledge and abusive rudeness.

"It's all in her mind," is what the testimony was in a court room by a dr. that wasn't to evaluate my psychological side, but did, HE WASN'T A PSYCHOLOGIST OR PSYCHIATRIST! He used the fact that 10 ears prior I had been diagnosed with ppd after my son was born, that was later re-diagnosed with hypothyroidism. This is how he based my TN as all in my mind. It didn't matter that 8+ other drs. said yes I had TN. The jury bought this "professional" opinion, for which he was paid $10,000 for. There is so many other ugly lies that were said by this man that conned the jury. Unfortunately I lost and now get to pay the $900 a month and a lifetime of pain that is "all in my mind"......

"You're too young to have TN," said the neurologist. I was 57 years old.

Wear a hat, said by a locum when I reported feeling ill and struggling to breathe and work whilst recovering from pneumonia!! Sorry it's not TN related but it is crazeeeeee. I reported it to my reg GP who is the head Dr at my surgery and she is no longer used by them!

So frustrating how little doctors know about TN. Hopefully somehow they will be offered classes on the newest scientific findings of this disease. Doctors have to take a certain number of credits of new classes each year. Many are done online, some in vacation spots or colleges. We need to educate them until that time comes.

Huh????? Oh my gosh....

I escorted my friend to the orthopedic clinic (broken shoulder). While waiting for her, I wandered over to the neurology clinic attempting to find out the number of TN patients treated there. The appointment clerk said he would try to find out. (He had never heard of TN). He went off to talk to people and when he returned, he said," You should go to the Oral Surgery Clinic."
