My visit with the ENT went well and, thankfully, my symptoms for this episode have subsided. I have a referral appointment in July to a neurosurgeon at Vanderbilt. This doctor is in the same practice as neurosurgeons who perform MVD for Trigeminal Neuralgia and I am hoping that this informs the discussion of my case. We'll see!
Thanks to everyone for the replies. I'll keep you posted.
I suffer from GPN, 24/7 for almost two years. I’m now disabled, however I lacked two points from total disability meaning I’m on SSI. This means I’m on Medicaid through the state. I seen Dr. Fukushima in Raleigh NC. Before seeing him I was dx type 2 ATN. He actually dx me as type 3 ATN. Stated it was extremely rare, and he wouldn’t dare touch me. I’m left with no other nuerosurgeon in NC. Would anyone know if an out of state surgeon would be able to do an MVD if I traveled out of state with having Medicaid. I’ve been informed of a surgeon that does MVD on GPN patients who is very good and great results. That would be a 6 hour drive for me.
I had my appointment with a Neurologist at Vanderbilt. I had kept EXTENSIVE notes since 2012 and was able to show that Gabapentin, amytriptyline, etc. were effectively disabling to me for my work teaching. I was encouraged to hear his opinion that there were several drugs of potential benefit before trying surgery. After 1 week on Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) I have had no grogginess or other side effects. We'll just have to wait and see if symptoms return in the next 24 months or so. I have had episodes in the January - March timeframe for the last 3 years.
