Things I Do To Manage Pain

Hi , i havent been on for awhile , i move back to australia. I cant get any doctors help as i had my surgery 3 year ago and my leftside of my face is numb all of it and most days it fills like a thousand bees stinging me , even though it no where near as bad as tn , i just wish that the doctor would look in to it why it happen instead of trying to just put me on pain killer as i dont need that. If there anyone has any information to help me it would be great. Tammy

I didn't know that the MVD would cause the faceto get numb just like Gamma knife and RF!!! Here I am trying to avoid that and looking for a doctor that would perform MVD because I don't want my face to get numb. So everything that we do will NUMB the face???? aaayyyy, aayyy, ayy Now I'm even more dissapointed than ever. :(

Hey Mitzi…I know 3 people who had the MVD surgery and never had the numbness, so I guess it depends on where the surgery is and how long they are in there, nerve locations, etc.
My surgeon said mine was one of the worse he had done, so he was in there longer and once you mess with those nerves for a long time…they get damaged, but like I said, some feeling is coming back, and no pain or threat of it makes it all worthwhile.
Good luck.

Thank you Sally,
I'm having a problem with my Neurosurgeon who says he doesn't see anything touching the nerve and wants me to go for Gamma Knife, which I don't want to do. I'm going to see another neurosurgeon for a second opinion, but honestly, I don't know if he's going to say the same thing. I'm pretty worried, if this one decides to go in anyway and spend a lot of time searching for a vein during MVD. I feel like I'm between the sword and a hard wall. I hate what the meds to me especially that I have to get up every morning and go to work feeling sleepy, nauseous and dizzy all day.

Hey Mitzi,
I am sorry you are having such trouble, and I remember the effects from the pain meds too. Not good.
I have not heard that many good reports from the gamma knife surgery, recurring pain, etc.
I think a second or 3rd opinion is the way to go. The first surgeon I went to told me he could fix it with just an injection under anesthesia. A couple thousand dollars later, it did nothing, and he would not accept any responsibility for the bad result…and HE went to Johns Hopkins Med school. Go figure.
The surgeon I found to do the MVD graduated from the univ of Oklahoma and I learned had performed a zillion of these.
Just some thoughts,
Sally

Sally,
Now that you say that you had an injection, I think that may be the culprit for the face getting numb (just thinking). In reference to the Dr. I am going to, he is one that one of the ladies in this group had her MVD done with and he is about an hour and half from my house. She is doing pretty too, and another lady here had her MVD in the same office with another Dr., after reading both of their ceritification, the second Dr. seemed to have more experience, but I went with the first one that called me back. Thank you, I'm very gratefull for all the information you have shared with me, I pray your face gets back to normal ASAP.

I might have thought the injection was the problem, but the numbness occurred after the MVD surgery.
Thanks for the thoughts tho…and best of luck to you.
