SURGERY Tuesday...nervous...need answers and advice :o)

Hi Dixie…funny I don’t want to watch it…I do know I am sitting up for my procedure…piece of skull removed then put back. The hardest part apparently or what causes the headache afterwards is the loss of brain fluid…takes two days to rehydrate.

Lyrica did nothing for me…had me talking in circles and just not care about the pain? Tegrtol was magic for me…I have made a list of all the things to be prepped with…clean sheets, pillows, stool sofenters…lots of soft foods…and a list of people to call to tell them how I did. Any thing else you can think of? Maybe gravel…I’m not worried now…I think I’m just getting overwhelmed…lots to take in and prep for.

Good Luck xox

yes, I am doing a bit of preparation, too. I did some yard work this morning & will do more next week. I just bought a couple sets of pajamas--I guess I should look "decent" while walking the hospital hall before discharge. I am going to get a pedicure a few days before--a little splurge for myself. I bought a stool softener to have at home after discharge (stop laughing). I will launder the mattress pad and will have all fresh sheets & pillow cases on, when I get home. I think I am doing most of what you are doing. Do you have someone home with you? I forget your family/marital status. I have a "significant other"--I guess that is the title, now--or "domestic partner"--whatever... We have been together for 5 years and he is very supportive. Anyway, time is passing quickly these past couple weeks, but i think I have everything in order. I have a "medical directive" (Living Will) that I will take with me. I should receive my absentee ballot any day. I want to make sure I get my vote in! You know, I want to be ready for any unseen events. I still have not watched any of the you tube MVD procedures, but I will. It seems like I have been too busy!

Hugs, Dixie

I had MVD in 2008 & doing my 2nd. It worked for 31/2 years ∧ back full force. I was in ICU for about 24 hours then a normal room the next day & released. About 2weeks down time. When I awoke from surgery was very nauseous & after a few different pills got the right one. I hope the 2nd one does the trick 4ever. My new surgeon does lots & feels he will help me. I had a vein on the nerve & the MRI shows its in the neighborhood.
Good luck & the surgery wasn’t too bad!
Hope this helps.

PS surgery is scheduled for 11/15 & will send updates.

Thanks so much for the response. I too had a vein on the nerve, a stricture at the other end, AND nerve bundles that were criss crossed!!! Sheesh even with all that I’m in pain. I have TN 2 but don’t regret having the procedure. The burning ice pick in the corner of my eye is gone as well as the hot poker up my nose. I am now working on genticulate neuralgia and dreading the winter winds. Blessings to you on your upcoming surgery
