I had an infection and it was because i had a nose bleed after i had a tooth re-root canalled ( if thats a word). X-ray taken showed severe infection …sooo I had to have surgery done. AFTER surgery is when I noticed some TN Pain on the floor of my sinus cavity…and the ONLY other time i get that pain …is when I get a sinus infection
So Not related…to trileptal.
Hi,
No, I don’t have Alzheimer’s, but Namenda was prescribed by my neurologist as they said that there look to be promising work showing that Namenda may be able to help trigeminal neuralgia. It comes in extended relief and you only take it once a day. Also, there no sedation or weight gain which is a plus. I take other medications in addition to Namenda for TN, but it really seems to be helping. I am taking Zanaflex as I was on Baclofen and it was making my heart burn worse, so she switched me to Zanaflex as she thought it was a better muscle relaxant to treat TN. I am on a much lower dose than Baclofen, but is seems to help more than Baclofen. These are defiantly two different medications to keep in mind.

Hi Beth, wow, you seem to be ahead of the curve. I had to look both those up, and I see Namenda is an Alzheimer's drug, chiefly. I'm assuming you don't have Alzheimer's?, so I'm guessing you're one of the frontrunners getting it for "epilepsy and neuropathic pain". Cool. You're a guinea pig! Does it work well?
The Zanaflex is just a muscle relaxant, the inter-webs tells me, but I see a lot of people use these relaxants. This is definitely something to keep in the back of my mind if I run out of options. Thanks for telling me about these.

I have TN 1 and have been through many different medications, but I in July I was referred to UCLA and the new neurologist prescribed two new medications that seem to be working. They are Namenda XR and Zanaflex; they are worth looking into.
Yeah, the Namenda looks really cool. I need to see if I can track it down here in the UK. Sometimes the drugs are not licensed for sale/prescribing here yet, but that one sounds really interesting. Thanks again for tipping me off about it.

Okaaaaay....., I can take a breath then, thank you. But, of course, it could still be Tegretol giving me these cursed headaches. Well, only time will tell. It's a slow bloody procedure, trying to find drugs that work for you. Sigh........

oh my,my throat goes numbish on r/s and so does my tongue, not always, but the feeling is kind of lost, and sometimes my r/s cheek doesnt feel me scratching as much as left side, almost like i have loss of sensation, not totally, but definatly have more sensation on left side, and i too wonder if its sinus,as i have had sinusitis many times. My top back tooth has a pocket that collects bacteria,i get it cleaned every 3 months, and brush, floss, use interdentals and keep my mouth very clean so the back tooth doesnt give me jip,but i sometimes wonder if my top back tooth is touching something near my sinus,or a nerve. Dentist x rayed it not so long ago, theres no decay, but he didnt mention if root is touching something,im sure he would. im back there mon for me hygiene clean,so may ask........anything to get me outta this hell of pain.......

Eeyup.. I wondered for awhile if It was reflux or if it is true GN or a reaction from Trileptal... But I have ear pain sooo, tis likely I would have throat pain... but after reading a few things on here I am starting to wonder if the Trileptal is making me have swallowing issues. Who knows. but I don't want to go off of it to find out!!!!! Ear pain would kill ME....sooo I just have to deal with it swallow slowly... Plus I have the numb throat on the right side. But I have recently figured out that if I concentrate on the left side....swallowing becomes easier and doesn't hurt as much!!!! MLAH!!!!!!
Come to think of it...I didn't have the throat issues until I started taking the Trileptal!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH
You're darned if you do....and you're darned if you DON'T!!
And I've been to my ENT many, many times..mostly thinking there was something wrong with my ears and also for my sinus'. I had sinus surgery. We've all been there.....it seems.
I have decreased sensation on my right side due to having TN.. I guess from the facial pain. My neurosurgeon diagnosed that in 2-08.. I had GKRS on 2-29-08 . and due to THAT procedure, I lost sensation of my tongue and taste ,on the right side as well.
