I called the neurologist (nurse practitioner) about alleviating the pain. Her nurse told me to take 2 100mg pills each morning and evening, for a total of 400 mg a day. The problem is that they told me this a couple of days ago when I called about the pain, and this is now the third or fourth time they've given me directions and then forgotten that they did.
I've just put in a call to my primary to see if he can recommend a new practice. This is beyond ridiculous.
Beth, I switched to the extended release form of Tegretol within 2 months of diagnosis of bilateral TN. Right side TN1 did fine on regular Tegretol but Left side TN2 responded better to the extended release, so that may be a consideration… Tegretol XR worked well for both sides. I found long lasting relief back then between 600-800mg.
I was taking 200mg tablets.
We’re all different…
I hope you find relief soon.
I use heat, cold has never worked for me, so I use a reheat-able bag in the microwave it’s called the “Magic Bag”. I also use a lidocaine mixed cream called Emla, that I purchase over the counter ( in Canada).
