As far as ANY invasive procedures go, I will keep all in my prayers. I have been a nurse for 20+ years and my conviction is that it only adds insult to injury. If it is a measure to save a life, then that is different. Again, I will keep all in my prayers. Diet, exercise (6 times per week) and changing the texture of foods that I eat have helped tremendously along with neurontin which I only take now if I feel a numbness or trigger coming on.
i had cranial surgery to cut nerves (9th and partial 10th) for atypical glossopharyngeal neuralgia (gpn). unfortunately it didn't help me. Nothing has.
but as you know the surgery has helped many people. While the risks are slightly higher than MVD it's still considered a relatively low risk surgery.
i was nervous beforehand. i didn't have any complications. And like Sheri who commented earlier I had an easier recovery with this surgery compared to MVD.
I hope it eliminates your pain and you have a quick and easy recovery. All the best!!!!!! I'm thinking positive thoughts.
Me too. I went gluten free and it works.

Hi medphysicsRB! I was just scrolling through the discussions & noticed that you had surgery today. I hope everything went well & that you'll finally be pain free forever! And, I hope your family & friends are close by & there to support you. I've never heard of Partial Sensory Rhizotomy. I'm new to this site & my Mom is the one who had TN. She has had 2 balloon compression surgeries for it (right side). This is a type of rhizotomy. Since her 2nd surgery in January this year she's pain free. Although, she still has numbness. She had been having pins & needles sensations too, but she was prescribed Lyrica for it about a week ago & it has stopped the pins & needles, amazingly, after only 2 days on it. I didn't want her to start it because of all the side effects. But, she had been going crazy because of all the weird feelings & numbness 4 months after this last surgery. She just couldn't take it. So, the neurosurgeon prescribed Lyrica. I don't advocate the use of it at all if possible though. I read about too many side effects & horrible withdrawals. Hopefully she won't be on it long. Anyway, medphysicsRB, I hope this is the last surgery for you & that you heal easily & well. Blessings!
Hi,
I had a trial run on it a few months ago. The dr. went in and numbed up the gasserian plexus nerve bundle and I was totally pain free and then the numbing medication wore off after three hours and I was back with the constant pain and burning. He attempted to do it again but could not find the tiny hole to implement the medical procedure. So in a few weeks I am seeing a neuro surgeon to once and for all complete this procedure. I have been suffering almost 8 years.
