I was wondering, I thought you cannot take baclofen with a tri-cyclic (amitriptyline). How does baclofen help you. I believe it has a way to boost up other meds you are taking.

I have been on Lyrica for at least five years. It has really helped with my neuropathic pain following the gamma knife procedure. It doesn't take all of the pain away, but it certainly does help. I also take Baclofen during the day as needed and Amitriptylene at bedtime. The side effecst of Lyrica ( unsteady on my feet, drowsy) went away after a few days.
Yikes! Why can't one take Baclofen with Amitriptyline? I've taken them together many times, and I'm on a high dose of the amitriptyline. I haven't taken the Baclofen for a while though, it doesn't really help me. But still, I didn't know there was an interaction.
I talked to my doctor about taking Baclofen and Amitriptyline together. He said it was fine for me to take them both. The Baclofen helps with my jaw pain.
Thank you for your post. Do you mind telling me how much Lyrica you take? Do you feel like taking it at night provides adequate pain relief throughout the next day?

I too am on Lyrica for about4-5yrs. Nothing else worked for me. I had the Stereotactic radiosurgery and it has worked wonders for me. My Lyrica was cut in half, and my neurologist has worked with me extensively to get my meds down to the least I need. I take all my dose of lyrica at night since it does make me loopy & sleepy. I have learned if I take it by 4pm then I can function as a mom the best in the morning as i don't have a "hangover" feeling. Dry mouth, weight gain have been some of my side effects, but they aren't super bad, except the weight gain; I think that also in part to my thyroid being off. The cold and wind are the worst violators in my life. I have been through a really tough patch, but hopefully I am on the better side of it. Depression is huge for me, since it ties into other issues that TN brings with it. I love Lyrica it has been a wonder drug for me. hth. I am so sorry for where you are at in the ugly cycle of TN. May you see a blessing today that you don't expect~~
I am trying to work with the Dr's to help my mom in a nursing home who has this face pain. I am needing more specifics if some people feel like if they take Lyrica at night they still get the pain relief benefits throughout the next day. Seems like a good way to avoid the side effects of tiredness.
Lyrica is similar to Neurontin, but Neurontin did not work for me, and Lyrica did. They both help witih nerve pain. I think you have to keep it in your system all the time, so it wouldn't help the next day if you took it at night only. By starting with a small dose, your mother should adjust to it. I know some people have an allergic reaction when they first take it, so your mother would know right away if she could take it. It has been a wonderful drug for me. I got pain relief the first day that I took it.
I’ve just recently been diagnosis with TN, and I must say I was amazed at how offer the Neurologist answered my question with “I don’t know.” He stared me on Teregatol and by day two I think I had every side effect symptom. Pressure headaches (forehead, random spots on my skull and at the base of my neck), muscle stiffness, nausea, dizziness , blurred vision and I even spiked a fervor. I felt disassociated with myself. And I still had electrical episodes on the right side of my face. Dr. said it has never happened before to a patient of his. After three days of being off I found myself again. But of course could live with the escalating episodes. So now I’m on Oxcarbazepine, starting at such a low dose that my face is pissed off all the time. I’ve always been sensitive to chemicals, I can’t take most all pain meds, any suffer drugs, steroids, only a few anti inflammatory. Until this year I was alway healthy, thank goodness. Scheduled for an MRI soon, the dye thing has me a bit freaked. This strange journey has me freaked. I will be sure to ask about Lyrica next visit.
