Your a strong girl and I know you will do fine. Your doctors have all the information they need and have a plan just for you. Just make sure you take it easy after surgery and let your mom take care of you, I think you said she was there for a week so that will be great and you will have great company too. Listen to the doctors and mom and get lots of rest. We need you to come back to the group and keep us all posted on your progress, only because we care and I wish you only the best. Your young and I love that your a second grade teacher, kids bring out the best in us. Please don't let a few personalities change how supportive this site is and you are right, its for supporting the decisions we already made or more if you ask for it which you did not. Stay strong and couragous!
hugs and prayers,
Tracy
Don't forget to get alot of great pillows so you can stay compfy when you get home and won't have any pressure on the side or back of you head. If your like me when you sleep, this will help you stay put :)
Just stopping by to see how you are doing? If you are confident in your decision to have surgery, that is all that matters. Stay strong and positive! Please check in and let us know how your surgery went. Many prayers will said for a good surgery and easy recovery!
Just wanted to let you know. I elected to have my first MVD less than a year after being diagnosed, and the second MVD was a year after my first. I knew in my heart it was my only option because medication was failing. I totally understand your feelings for wanting the surgery and support you. My support comes regardless that my MVD's were unsuccessful but I would never sway a person not to have the surgery. Yes, I got some quality of life back from the two surgeries and I don't regret having them nor will I ever regret having them. You will never know if the surgery will work until you have it. I pray that you get relief from this awful pain!
Hugs and prayers! Stay strong and focused on your surgery!
I am truly sorry for my comment and I did not mean to upset you, Tammie. That is the last thing you need right now right before your surgery. This is a group that truly is supportive and loving. I will wish you the best and you are in good hands. Let us us know how you are doing. My thoughts & prayers are with you.
I'm not sure if this is the best place to post my recovery status, so if there is a better option, please let me know!
Surgery was Thursday, and all went well. My surgeon found three arteries that were "messing with" my trigeminal nerve. I wish I had more time to talk with him after the surgery, but that wasn't the case. Regardless, he let me know he basically lined my T nerve with "pillows".
I am happy to report the pain is gone! I know I am in a lot of serious pain in other places on my head, and I know that I am still on pain meds, but when they wear off, there is no sign of TN! YES! The doctor said my surgery was a complete success. I am still feeling a little tingling on my L side of my tongue and mouth. Is this normal?
They sent me home last night (Friday) and it was awful. It was definitely too soon. My mother was tempted to take me back to the ER, but I was too worried about being in a car again. I toughed it out, and this morning went back to vicodin, as the hydromorphone was making me nautious. I know that vicodin is what my body prefers, even though it's not as strong; and I was right. I was able to go for a short walk today and have been able to hold down food, which wasn't happening on the stronger meds.
So...thank the universe. I believe I am healed. Whether it be for a year, a few months, it was worth it.
I am moving back to Indiana in a month...to be closer to my family and my new niece. And I'm headed to Mexico in July. All hopefully pain free!
Thank you for all of your support. I am sorry if I offended anyone, or if I got a little sassy. But I felt a little "judged" and I think we all revert back to our defense mechanisms when we feel attacked. I am grateful for this community and happy to have made so many friends already. Thank you for the support. Now it's my turn to do what I can to help anyone with this awful disease. love to all of you...
I also just recently had MVD surgery. May 4th was my date. The numbness you are experiencing in your tonge sounds similar to mine. It did go away. Now I still have numbness in my right ear, also told should go away after time. I am on no meds, I am brushing my teeth without pain and I have gone back to my business as a professional speaker. MVD was a miracle for me.
Please go ahead and ask me anything about my recovery, it appears I am just that little bit ahead of you in the process. I wish you new life as you find your happiness and health once again.
Such GREAT news Tammie! I am so happy that your surgery was called a success. Now you have to focus on recovering and having a great summer. Your scar looks great and they didn't take to much hair :)
Take it easy and I hope the days continue to get better for you!!!
Thank you Tammie for posting this question....and I am so glad all went well. I have my MVD scheduled for Tuesday June 7th. I have been following everyones input and your comments closely. The more we all know the better. Here's to your quick and smooth recovery.
Sarah, did you have ringing in your ears? Migranes? Throbbing when you stand? Sorry, don't want to call my doctor for little things, but the migranes are worrying me.
Erin, please message me if you would like to talk more. Aside from two migranes, I have had an incredibly easy recovery. I was walking the first night. Out the next day. (Personally I wish I would have stayed one more night.) Day 4 I took my mom to the beach to put her toes in Puget Sound. (Obviously she drove.) If you take care of yourself, and prepare, you will do just fine! I got deep tissue massages before surgery to help my body relax. Let me know if I can help you at all! This site is a great resource.
