Mvd surgery

thanks for your outlook. I hope to be talking to the MVD surgeon soon.

kristin forrester,

if you aren't sure of the diagnosis, think carefully about going with gamma knife. it is serious business and can make you worse if your anatomy isn't qualified for it. there is no coming back from radiation; it is permanent.

MVD is not without risk. however, despite it being invasive, it is less pervasive than high doses of radiation near the brainstem.

neither procedure is the easy route. none of these treatments are.

good luck,

go to University of Miami, Fl. Dr. Patin, he is an awesome doc! he is only one that does it in fl. He picked up on Dr. Salvins work from illinois who is really the pioneer of this surgery. If you would like more info about the surgery, dr salvin wrote a book on it that was published last year. you can find all this info all line. hopefully this helps.

Hi - am part of this board and just found this thread. Could you please tell me what specifically Dr. Patin does at University of Miami - Motor Cortex Stim or PENS? Thanks Alison

Kristin,

I really feel your pain. It is 2:45 AM in the morning and I am nervous about my appointment with the Neurosurgeon today. Within the last two weeks I have battled with the incompetence of two Neurologist, who have never had cases where the patient has had TN since childhood. Due to this they both decided to add more medication to the 600 mg of Tegretol I am already taking. To my advantage one of them decided to order a MRI and MRA. Since I am not willing to go back to this Neurologist, I had my primary care physician write out another referral this time to the Neurosurgeon. After my MRI/MRA I had the technician give me a CD, which I am taking to my appointment today. Sad - but I had to it this way or my insurance would not have approved my new visit.

So here I am waiting for the time to go by and to find out if my life will finally change from this hungover-being stupid -cannot remember a thing stage. I keep reading all these stories on here about how much everyone is taking and I cannot even comprehend how anyone can consider this a tolerable quality of life. My employer decided this month after missing a week and half of work to let me go. So, now I am having to battle insurance problems and the unemployment office. My hope is to finally find a resolution.

Thanks.
