I finally had my MVD surgery on april 20,2012. I had sharp ear pain also, I think that everything is healing inside. I was taking Percocet for the headaches. I am finally off of that. I am slowly feeling better. Just don't over do it. Even if you are feeling better doing to much can set you back.
What side effects did you have? I am really exhausted. Watching alot of TV. Trying to go back to work a few days but I think I am going back to soon.?

Pull your support together. Get prepared for the side effects of brain surgery. Stock pile easy meals, laundry and supplies till you are back on your feet. If you can handle the train wreck that is TN you can handle the MVD. It isn't an instant miracle, but for me it has made all the difference in my life. Good luck.
Exhaustion is pretty common with any type of brain surgery. The brain will tell you to sit your butt back down, it's not ready to get back to work. Always remember that an MVD is brain surgery and start from there. Same with fatigue. I also watched TV that I had never watched in my life and probably never will again ( David tutera anyone?). Don't go back to work till you are ready. I am 6 months out and still have side effects but the pain is dealt with on that side. Still have breakthru on the other side but not bad enough to want to go through this again.
If it did get as bad as my left side was, I would.Trust yourself. My head still is tender at the incision, but I wear a headset, head light and safety glasses right across the incision site nightly which I am sure doesn't help. I also developed migranes, but my neuro isn't sure if that is from the mvd or from the aneurysm repair and stent that was installed around the same time so I am on topamax for that. Off the Gabapentin though.
Take it easy. Icepacks should help the discomfort. Keep a journal if you are concerned about your progress, it might help you to have a measurable standard to look at when it seems things aren't moving as fast as you had hoped. Stay in touch.

My doctor said 3 months till I can work full time. He said I wouldn't feel like doing much of anything things will take time to heal. I work at a small pizza shop and June-Aug is the busy time. I hope to be better by the end of June.
3 months sounds right. Watch anything that makes you bend or lift heavy objects.
I am at work and I do bend at little and I try not to lift anything too heavy. I wish I got this done in January or sooner then I would have been better now when our busy season is coming! We are getting more help in to help me out for now. My finance doesn't seem to understand all of this. He wants to know why I am on my meds still and why I am so tired! I am going to let him talk with my doctor to let him explain why.

I had my MVD surgery on 8/22/11. I am just now feeling really good and feeling that the surgery was worth it. I was taking 2 anti seizure meds. I am now almost tapered off the second. I still have a few pains at the incision site. I was sent home with some heavy duty pain meds , which i took only when i really needed it. I suggest you call the surgeon and talk to him about your pain.
My surgeon is wonderful. If anyone has any questions about MVD surgeons you should google Dr. Jeffrey Brown in New York.
My daughter went to her neurosurgeon but he felt that this was an admission that he did something wrong and he was no way going to admit to that so she went to her regular doctor and he had never seen her during an episode of TN pain so he wouldn't give her anything strong enough so she went to emergency during an episode and they gave her percocet but when she needed a refill they treated her like a common street adict. My daughter is 45yrs old and has never smoked, drank or done any kind of drugs that wasn't prescribed for her.
Unfortunately these days drs are so afraid of pain meds due to the amount of abuse. I was in the ER once…now mind you I am a Police Officer …they were giving me a hard time until they saw an episode come on them all of a sudden they were quick to get me meds…if I were your daughter I would go to another nuero surgeon or neurologist…this is her life, she is in pain and like it or not we have to fight for what is right sometimes
three months off work? My doctor toldme 4-6weeks tops?????I am having minr done 7/11......now i am freaking out more!
