These meds help some and don't others, I failed on tegretol, side effects, however I am maintained on a low dose of neurontin, 300 mg. 3x, can't up it because it makes my lower extremities swell and I have significant nerve injury to my legs from failed back surgery and a spinal cord injury, but that drug has been somewhat beneficial. So happy your wife tolerates that high dose, it will work, probably one of the better ones with less side effects. Take care, Sharon

Sharon, my wife still deals with occasional twinges and stabs, particularly "behind" her right eye. But she says that it's like the tip of the iceberg has been melted off. She is on 2700 mg/day of Neurontin, with relatively minor side effects. She's been successful for over 12 years on this medication plan, including after she went through a bout of Shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia.
