Hey, Bill. First of all, I’m very sorry you are suffering. I know exactly what you are going through because my pain started the exact same way as yours. After MUCH research over the years, I’ve decided what has happened to me was not just a run-of-the-mill case of nerve damage. I believe the injection or the drilling or both triggered my pain to come about, which I now know is most accurately called trigeminal neuropathic pain. I’ve had doctors suggest surgery to me and now I know this is because doctors know so, so little about our condition that they will recommend procedures that are actually dangerous for us.
The one med that helped me (out of the 20 I tried) was nortriptyline, which handles specifically neuropathic pain.
Bottom line is: NO invasive/surgical procedures. The small dental procedure was enough to wake the sleeping giant and we don’t need more tweaking on our nerves. Good luck.
Thanks Liz, I have pretty much ruled out any invasive surgery. I’m taking amitriptyline which is helping somewhat. At least it’s manageable. We’ll see, if this doesn’t work out I’ll suggest the nortiptyline.
Bill
The most important piece of the puzzle for anyone is having a competent neurologist. Mine says he is the “Captain of my ship.” While we know currently we are at the end of the line for a cure, we all keep looking for something new. Hope.
Thank God for Nortriptyline! Mine was triggered from a dental implant. Oddly enough, I felt what I called electric tickles for about a year - like a bug on my chin. Then the shocks came with other symptoms pretty much all over the right side of my face and back of my head on that side. Docs offered me MVD since there is a compression - I’m leaving that as a last resort. One doc told me I would know when it was time because I’d want throw myself in front of a bus instead of deal with the pain. I cried the whole way home from NY that day to PA. Whatever I have, nortriptyline is keeping it at bay. It’s been 2 years. I pray that it stays this way.
I’m so glad you’re pain free for now. I will certainly keep this medication in mind. Right now the Amitriptylin is working, if it stops being effective I will mention this to the Doc.
