i just canceled an appointment with my neurologist last week because i have a new patient appointment with a neurologist @ mayo clinic later this month ... i canceled because i was afraid my insurance would not pay for seeing both doctors the same month ... my dilemma now is, the breakthrough pain i am experiencing ... i feel like i am going to get a lecture for not coming in last week ... oh well ... i can call in the morning and see if doc will call in the patch/cream that KC is talking about ... i called in and got the other meds without going in
i saw the neuro November 19 ... here are notes
Laboratory studies are significant for mildly elevated antinuclear antibody and ribonuclear protein, raising the possibility of a connective tissue disorder which may be relevant to the patient's trigeminal nerve symptoms. Consultation with rheumatology is requested.
They usually try anti-convulsants. If they work, that is your indication that it IS T.N. I am currently having a pretty bad attack. Not as bad as the initial ones, but pretty bad anyway. I upped my Tegretol last night and this morning to try to settle it down, and I am trying to do the regular dose tonight, but I still have this tingly feeling in my face like it's just waiting to get me again. I swear I think I have PTSD from this. Mine has been pretty much under control for a while now, and I had such a positive outlook......now this! Good luck to you!

I'm new to all of this.
What seems to be the best medications to use reduce the TN shocking sensations?
Whenever I chew, I get these horrible electrical shocking sensations on the right side of my face.
Baclofen qualifies as both a muscle relaxant and anti-spasmodic agent. It is used off-label as an adjunct or "booster" medication for primary anti-seizure meds in the control of neurological pain.
Likewise, the primary meds used in Type 1 TN management are summarized in one of the articles clustered in our Face Pain Info tab, menu above.
