Anyone in UK been prescribed or using CBD (Cannabis Oil)?

See? That’s what I mean, Fedup, you find it useful because of the psychoactive part, i.e. the bit that gets you ‘high’. Personally, I feel that’s what works in medicinal Cannabis, but here in the UK we can’t have that, just the oil. Still, it’s always worth a try - nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Amanda, you have seriously strange biology. They could make a film about you; you know the girl with the super-biology powers: breaks toe and ‘cures’ diabetes. It’s like some kind of weird crab body part regeneration! Seriously though, isn’t the way the body works amazingly weird? - and yet doctors always want it to conform to some imaginary standards and never believe in strange cures and complaints. God knows why - the annals of medicine are full of wonderful creatures like yourself. I mean, I’m allergic to Elastoplast and for years if I accidentally wore some with the wrong kind of adhesive I used to get rashes in the same site, unprovoked, for years afterwards. Bizarre…

I have tried the pen, which is cannabis oil extract, and you inhale it. The one I tried had THC so you may get high depending on how much you use, and depending on the frequency with which you use it.

That being said, it definitely “modulates” my pain. Sometimes it takes the edge off a bit when I have the pain. I would recommend you try it if you can. My thinking is that I would rather try this now than “start the clock” on using the meds such as oxcarbazepine, etc (since some people report that the meds stop working after some time).

Woman_with_the_elect, if possible, can you please get the details of the pen they prescribe there to MS patients, specifically what is the THC and CBD content in MG, and also the % content ratios? Thanks

I so agree. I have always had the dr can’t explain medical issues. I know one thing… carbs are my enemy. So true and so sad. They always tried to give me metformin and I said I couldn’t tolerate it, and believe me I tolerate a lot. I made the connection, not them as usual, that it was because I had no gallbladder! Why wouldn’t they figure this out. Heck I googled my suspicion and it was there! So many post gallbladder surgery patients with an intolerance to the cure all diabetic drug. I really think most of it is all pharmaceutical financially based. My last sinus infection he ordered a cat scan, an ENT, and an allergy specialist and refused an antibiotic. I refused his testing which took over a month of my suffering to schedule. I mean seriously, who has that kind of money? I googled (got to love it) found out my antibiotic I was already taking for acne prevention was good for sinus infections in a higher dosage so I increased it for 10 days and voila! Instant success! Go figure!

Hi Knowpain, you’ve tried the pen? Are you in the UK, and if so I assume you have MS? Because only MS patients get it here. If you are in the US, did you have it prescribed for TN or was it MS again? I don’t know what brand name it has in the US but here it’s called Sativex . Here’s the website; http://sativex.co.uk/ it has all the data on it. Is it the same one as you’ve used?

P.S. I saw my (new) doc today and she was, as usual, freaked by being asked for cannabis oil. She’d never heard of it being prescribed, had never been asked for it before and wouldn’t give it to me till she “spoke to the pharmacist”. She said “Give me a few weeks”. I had to restrain myself from saying “Yeah, sure, take all the time you like, this pain coming back - I’m great with it.” But we think these things and never say them…

Hah, Amanda, why give you a correct dose antibiotic for an infection when they can send you for lots of expensive tests and unnecessary procedures? I got the UK version of that today when I asked my (new) doc to continue my normal 4-weekly injections of B12. She looked at me like I’d asked to have powdered infant bile ground from newborns and said “Every 4 weeks? We normally do every 3 months”. I explained that it seemed to work for me and I knew it was unconventional but it was a lot safer than Carbamazepine to which I was (slowly) allergic and which gave me a lot of serious side effects. She muttered a lot and let me have one, but you could see she didn’t like the idea and that I might well have them cut off. This is all because it’s not ‘normal’, and is nothing to do with expense. What IS it about doctors and their terrible terror of ‘breaking the rules’?

WOW! It is ridiculous! I am a former special education teacher (due to the GPN) and I have learned you need the right medication at the right dose for each child, if you choose to medicate that is. Every person is different and needs different things. I have so many issues with my general practitioner I can’t wait to change next year! I am fortunate to have an amazing neurologist. I was on the maximum dosage of topomax normally prescribed. It wasn’t enough and I found an article from another country that more than tripled that dosage in GPN patients. I discussed it with her, she was shocked but said ok, let’s start with doubling and go from there! She is the best!

You lucky devil - an open-minded doctor? You need to hold onto that one. Maybe you should consider marrying her - better safe than sorry!

I am in the US, it is easier to get it here. I don’t have MS, just TN. There are many brands and strains of cannabis here, Sativex is an actual pharmaceutical product, the pen I have tried was not a pharmaceutical.

Ah, thanks. How I wish I could be American for a month and just try the darn thing out!

Have they legalized that in Indiana yet? I’m not up to date on gay marriages lol, focusing more on when marijuana will be legal. LBVS

My understanding is CBD is not cannabis oil but a hemp oil active ingredient. Am I wrong?

Cannabis and Hemp are one and the same plant, broadly speaking, all being in the same genus. Some species are bred to produce the maximum amount of the ‘high’ for drug use, recreational and medicinal, and some are produced with a view to having little/no high-inducing qualities - that’s the kind that’s used for hemp oil and the like. I suspect part of the usages of the names Hemp v. Cannabis these days is to give one legitimacy; Hemp, and the other an ‘evil’ or ‘naughty but fun’ image - Cannabis. Certainly you will never go into a supermarket and see Finest Cannabis Oil emblazoned across a cooking oil!

I started /with Charlotte Web CBD oil at the lowest strength (10mg.) a month ago.
I start by using the advice on bottle, but it was too strong for me. I reduced to 1/8 tsp twice a day for 2 weeks.
Then I increased to 1\4 tsp twice a day. I plan to increase or by the hemp plus stronger (25mg) to reduce rest of pain.
I have had great results. I have ATN and it help so much that I am now decreasing the gabapentin which I hate.
I plan to get off of this and lexapro.
I still have some pain early in am, and I feel that will go away with an increase. I feel I have found a miracle for treating my ATN so far. It also has reduced my anxiety to none. I will report later on how CBD oil is helping down the road.

I was on Gapapentin 200mg. A day.
Very low dosage since I am ultra-sensitive to most drugs. Therefore, I had a lot of pain. I was using a lot of different otc’s, and still in pain.
Now I don’t use otc’s since using CBD.
I plan to continue reducing gaba to zero and increasing CBD oil.

That’s very interesting, Linda - glad to hear it’s working for you. Are you in the US? You haven’t been prescribed this here in the UK?

I am In South Carolina US which medical marijuana is not legal yet. Although
many states in US have legalized medical marijuana.
However, CBD oil is legal in all states in United States. I can order it online or buy at local health food stores. It is so popular now that there is a shortage and sometimes hard to get.
A lot of people are using it for other pain disorders. I don’t believe that the company Charlotte Web CBD (hemp) can ship every where. Check it out for U.K. This worked a lot better than drugs and had no side effects. You can stop anytime and there is no withdrawal.
At first you may have nausea or headache, just start at a lower dose and build up.
Website is cwhemp.com

I just read it is legal and can be purchased in U.K.
It is sold by UK CBD in U.K. They have this same Brand. Try first the
10mg. Hemp oil small bottle.

I did not get a prescription from my doctor. You do not need that to order or buy.
Just be sure you get a good quality product like Charlotte Web because there are a lot of scammers selling bottles with little or no CBD in them.
I think the people which tried CBD oil and didn’t get pain reductions, might have used one of those scammers products.
I have ATN now. I have not had TN in over 4 years which lasted one week.
I have had ATN for 5 years. I can only speak for CBD oil helping ATN.
