Any precautions I can take prior to dental work?

I need to go to the dentist and I am deathly afraid this will cause tm pain! Does anyone know something I can do before hand to prevent this? Maybe a Big dose of tegretol?

I take an extra Oxcarbazepine (after asking my doctor) and some Xanax (again - doctor) to help me relax. I then let the dentist and hygenist know. The most difficult part for me is the water spraying so I work out a signal with them. But I am sensitive to cold, which you may not be. Good luck! I hope it goes well for you. XOXO

I don't let them put injections in my mouth. They use a heavy amount of laughing gas which relaxes me.

I copy out a picture from the FACE PAIN INFO section of the TN pathways. I hilight my pain pathways and have a gentle chat about avoiding injecting anywhere near them. I often have fillings without pain relief, to minimise the risk. Upping your meds with your Dr’s approval is also advisable.
Good luck, I have never had dentist inflicted pain following a few simple precautions. I wish the same for you.

Thanks so much for all replies! Cold is a big trigger for me, as well as touching certain areas. The shots I actually like because they take away my pain. When I had a filling last time the dentist gave me twice as much shots to try to prevent pain. It worked, but my TN is way worse since then. Xanax or something is a good idea because I really am so nervous & afraid I have put off the dentist too long. Thanks again all, I will talk to dr about these ideas.
