I had magnetic therapy and she said it was helping the healing process of the nerve but i know most people dont believe in this yet it helped me.
I actually saw a medical doctor who works with a physical therapist first. But they are several hours away and said the drive would undo the good of the exercises. So they had me find a Mckenzie therapist in my area. Forgive me if I get this wrong, but I was on Tegretol and some other stuff when they explained it all to me and my mind was not working very well at the time, but I will try to explain. The medical doctor and physical therapist say that it is an inflamed or bulging disc that is pressing on the nerve. It is usually too subtle and not read as anything that could cause a problem by the radiologist. When it is pressing on the nerve the pain signal is sent "down river". Usually it affects people's shoulder and arm. Sometimes it goes down the vegas nerve and gives people stomach problems. In my case it traveled to the trigeminal nerve. They think this is the case for a lot of trigeminal neuralgia cases. I don't think it is a new idea, I think there are other people out there that think this is the case.
As I did the exercises the disc was pushed back into place relieving the pressure on the nerve. That is why it slowly goes away as the disc heals and stays in place. The doctor also put me on vitamins to help with inflammation and healing. Once the nerve wasn't getting pressed on and sending that signal, the nerves in my face calmed down and weren't so sensitive anymore and the trigger points went away. I am the first person with trigeminal neuralgia, that my physical therapist has treated. He usually just does lower back problems. So we are learning together. But he said it doesn't really matter what I have. He doesn't worry about the diagnosis necessarily he just watched me move my head in different directions and how that affected my pain and he could tell where the problem was and what I should do to fix it. What I know is, a few months ago I couldn't go outside, my kids couldn't hug or kiss me, I couldn't really do anything, now I am back to doing whatever I want. Feel free to ask any questions you want. If this could help you in any way it would make me so happy.

Porcelina,
I am going to try to make this short, although I could never have imagined something could be so complicated both physically, mentally and emotionally. Hopefully soon I will have time to sit down and write out my whole complex experience.
I went to a physical therapist who does Mckenzie method. He didn't touch me or move me. I would not have been able to stand it. He showed me how to do a neck exercise. (Let me say, I did not think the problem could be in my neck, I had not noticed any neck pain or problems before my first TN attack, but my husband talked me into trying it). The physical therapist said he would know in two appointments if he could help me or not. And he wouldn't have me do anything that caused pain. I don't think he even charged me for the first appointment, he said to wait and see if he could help me. After my first appointment I was so much better I couldn't believe it. After my second appointment I was 80% better and no longer 24/7 pain. I think it was by the third week my trigger points were gone and my kids could touch and kiss my face. That was a big day at our house! Whenever I would feel my nerve start to fire, I would do my exercises and the pain would go away. I have been off of my trileptal and other crappy meds I was taking for about six weeks now. My Trigeminal Neuralgia pain has been gone for two months. It takes between 4 to 6 weeks of doing the exercises. It only cost me $50 per appointment (my insurance does not cover it) compared to the $450 for my first visit with the Neurologist. I think my neurologist would say I am just in remission. But I could see a direct correlation between doing the exercises and the pain going away. My husband and I did a lot of research first, reading, watching youtube videos, talking to doctors and physical therapists. I would definitely recommend researching a lot. If prayer is something you believe in I would suggest that too. I searched a lot on here. I found a few other people in this group who I think did the same or similar thing as I did, and I tried to contact them, with no answer. To me that said they must be better and getting on with their lives. Why else would you not come to this site if you were still having pain? When my pain was 24/7, I was here almost that much. Anyway, that was kinda long but I get real excited that maybe this might work for someone else and they could be pulled up out of that deep dark hole that evokes such fear and dread when I think of it.

Hello everyone I was wondering if any of this alternative therapy helped with the type 2 burning
First of all you are very nice to come here and share, a lot of people will vanish in the moment they are o.k, and you havent been sick for couple of years to establish here deep relationships, so thank you for coming back, of course eventually you will go back to your former life, but it's good that this fourm may help people seeking for help because we will be there for the public eye. I havent heard of massive cases of referred pain from down up to the face, but i do know for at least one more woman like you, that had referred pain, so i have heard it, just not a lot. I even read that the trigeminal nerve go down to the C3 C4 so maybe it's explains some of it's coming from down for you (I know some of you will say, no way go down to C4,3, and i am not saying I know for sure, but i did read this somewhere, could be true could be false, i am not to judge that). And a lot of people have pain in their face as well their neck and even for some the shoulders are sensitive ( I myself have a problem with the neck - to rotate to the left, my damage was done to the left ). unfortunately, i am not to believe it will help me, because i believe my T.nerve was cut, but what am i realy left with??? so i am here looking for anything, why not to try some alternative?!? I am very young, but I already had once other disease, that only alternative remedy helped...So who knows, and good you wrote, if it not to help me, and probably not, it can help greatly to other

Ayre, Mine started out with a "worst toothache of my life" pain in my back molars, lasted a couple of days then would come and go throughout the day. I would also get jabs that were pretty bad, a couple that brought me to my knees. Then it progressed to 24/7 boring, burning pain, and was that way until I started with the physical therapist. It felt like there was a knife jabbed into my lower jaw and someone would hit it with a hammer every once in a while. I was still having pain even with my meds. The reason I explained it in depth is because the "expert" my neurologist said I had Typical Tn but I think I had Type 2 Atypical. I don't think he knew there was more than one type and he didnt seem to want me to explain it to him.
Ravit, I truly believe God wants to help us. My family including my 7 sisters all prayed that we would find an answer. That is how I believe my husband and I found the doctor that helped me. I hope they have Mckenzie therapy where you are so you can at least try it. There is a book on it but I think it would be best to go to a therapist who knows what they are doing. Hope and faith is what kept me going. I know I didn't have the pain for a long time like others but I did not do well with it at all. I didn't come back here for a while because even looking at this site gave me deep fear. I think I am suffering from some post traumatic disorder stuff. My husband also ordered me a pain shield (doesn't seem to be too popular on this site). I think it came from Israel. It is pretty expensive. I had already gone to the physical therapist when we received it so I didn't get a chance to see if it works, but I believe that it would. It is supposed to actually heal nerves. There are a couple of people on here you could talk to about it that say it worked for them. There are videos on Youtube with the Doctor that invented it. I sure hope you find relief from your pain. My family will include you in our prayers.

Hi,
I have written this before. I'm writing it again, because it works so well for me. My doctor made me a mixture of ketamine and lidocaine to spray up my nose. When my pain is at its worst, I spray it up my nose and it numbs it for twenty minutes or so.
I never had burning, just aching. xx
A couple of thoughts here, please. First I don't wish to criticize any method that seems to work for individual patients. But second, moderators here are ethically obligated to point out when various alternative therapies have no documented or consistent record of success in treating trigeminal nerve pain. We're seeing both conditions in this thread, I think.
Although pain can be referred from a pinched nerve in the neck to the face, I know of no documented record ANYWHERE in the peer-reviewed medical literature that reports pain in the teeth being sourced in this manner. Second, as far as I know, Pain Shield as a device has never been put through controlled double-blind trials, and has no consistent record of outcomes in any neurological pain condition. If anyone knows of published reports to the contrary, I'd like to see references please.
The reasoned conclusion from these factors is that if you choose to employ a physical therapist or do neck limbering exercises or use a Pain Shield device -- and you can afford to do so without insurance reimbursement -- then that's your decision. But for anyone beginning ANY type of therapy for the first time, the rule of thumb should be to check first with your primary care provider and be sure your outcomes are monitored while engaging in such therapies. Keeping a pain and appointments diary is also a good idea, to be able to look for patterns of events which are associated either with breakthrough pain or cessation of pain.
I wish each of you well in the management of your own pain. I merely encourage all of us to be careful about generalizing from individual cases where we don't have details or a context in which to understand either positive or negative outcomes.

I have done acuptuncture and first time was only one session and it worked for 11 weeks. Then weather got cold so I flared up again, this time I have gone for 1 treatment a week ago and I do need another treatment. I wasn't sure at first but I then thought oh well nothing could do the pain worse than it already is.
