1st Time Blog - Eye Shocks

I have had left eye shock off and on for six years. Drug Oxcarbazine has seem to help mute the intensity of the shocks for the last four years. A couple trip we have taken this year seem to have triggered longer (up to 2 minutes), intense, painful shocks. Does anyone feel changes like trips and maybe air pressure changes triggers more intense, longer episodes? Also wondering at what point do I proceed to have the surgery? The possible side affects concern me. Do I have the Neurologist prescribe a different drug first? Having up to 100 nanosecond shocks per hour and occasionally having ones that last 20 seconds or more is not something I would want to have tolerate for long.

Usually doctors want to see at least 3 meds tried before considering surgery, but that opinion varies depending who you talk too .
I would consult with at least two neurosurgeons and get their opinion.

Airplane travel or road travel never really affected me until last year and then only road travel, it’s the vibration that sets it off for me. In an Airplane the air pressure and actual flying don’t affect me but the taxiing ( vibration) sure does!!
We’re all so different…you can always try to increase your dose or try adding a second med at a small dose to start, unfortunately it’s trial and error!
I can tell you in my experience Dilantin added to my Tegretol CR helped with the shocks, but again we all respond differently to the meds.
Hope this helps, Mimi

Hi Walter, I just started having this happen in my left eye, I can only describe as if you ate extremely cold ice cream, I don’t know I just grab my face/eye & wait till it passes. I’m also having a neuro/occipital stimulator done on May 29th, jus the temporary, my neurologist knows this but doesn’t say if it’s going to help. Hope you feel better good luck
